Overview

An exquisite nod to Oriental spirituality and scroll motifs take the ground in this Japanese style wool rug. This one-of-a-kind piece offsets sapphire and sky blue against a traditional golden yellow field. To produce it, natural plant dyes have been used, as well as hand spun pure wool. In traditional Japanese culture, the color blue represents purity and cleanliness largely because of the vast stretches of blue water that surrounds the Japanese islands. As such, blue also represents calmness and stability. It is also considered a feminine color, and so, in combination with the association with purity and cleanliness, blue is often the color young women wear to show their purity. In Far East Japan, people consider yellow a sacred color. It denotes sunshine and nature and is a popular color in flowers, clothes and in gardening.
